KUNSTHÅNDVÆRK
Contemporary Danish Crafts from Bornholm

Bornholm is one of the Danish islands in the Baltic Sea, and the first island in the world to be awarded the title of “WORLD CRAFT REGION BORNHOLM” in 2017, which is the highest evaluation in the field, by a UNESCO-certified NPO organization, the World Craft Council.

Nine artists from Bornholm are curated literary beyond generation and gender. They simply share their passion for contemporary crafts on equal footing. This is a group of artists who develop crafts into contemporary crafts by taking time to study and understand materials with their own unique approaches. As a special collaboration project with HOTEL K5, KAORI JUZU, a finalist of THE LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize 2023, will create an original pin brooch inspired by the venue.

The Daiichi Bank Annex, which was established by Eiichi Shibusawa as the first bank in Japan, has been reborn as a new space called HOTEL K5, with the interior and exterior design supervision by Claesson Koivisto Rune, a design unit from Sweden, a neighboring country of Denmark. Today, there is a rhythm that is different from the time that once flowed in Kabutocho as Japan's leading financial district. And that rhythm somehow links to the rhythm of everyday life on the island where these artists devote themselves to creative activities. They understand the meaning of taking time. How will their works give a new perspective to the Japanese lifestyle? We hope you will experience and enjoy the fusion of Japanese and Scandinavian sensibilities.
