The Conran Shop 30 ANNV Inspiration for the Next

The Conran Shop is celebrating its 30th anniversary in Japan. For 30 years, as a pioneer of lifestyle stores, it has continued to express the enjoyment and enrichment of daily life through new-found items and styling. In proposing the NEXT style, The Conran Shop Japan will continue to develop products suited to Japanese and Asian lifestyles, and will introduce four designers (Momoko Kudo, Akihiro Kumagai, Shigetaka Fujishiro, and Sera Yanagisawa) and their INSPIRATIONS that will lead to new products.

Momoko Kudo
First-class architect / Representative of MMA Inc.

Born in Tokyo and spent her childhood in Switzerland. Graduated from Tama Art University, Department of Environmental Design, and after working in organizational design, completed a master's degree at Terunobu Fujimori Laboratory, Kogakuin University. In 2004, he established MMA Inc. In addition to concept-making and architectural design, he also works in interior design and exhibition space organization.

Akihiro Kumagai
Designer / Director

Exploring the way of looking at things and their structure, Kumagai designs and directs from his own unique perspective and reconstructing the context. He has also been continuously creating objects that mediate representation and perception by extracting the structure of objects, and has exhibited his work in the solo exhibition “OBJECTS”. Recently, he has applied this technique to products and furniture, such as SEKISAKA “PARK” and FIEL “OPEN”.
Major works include art direction for T-HOUSE New Balance free magazine “NOT FAR,” planning, supervision, and venue composition for MUJI's “STOCK Exhibition,” concept research for 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT's “Sundries Exhibition,” curator for “Koichi Yanagimoto Exhibition,” and design for Olympus's genuine camera Product design for Olympus genuine camera bag “CBG-2”. Edited the book “STOCK” (MUJI BOOKS, 2017).

Shigeki Fujishiro

Shigeki left the acclaimed IDÉE Co., Ltd. in 2005 to found his own studio: shigeki fujishiro design.He has been active with interior products as the main axis. He has recently collaborated with Hermès, adidas, CAMPER and Arita ware “2016/.” He also engages in planning, producing and selling products on his own. He recently joined the project “Knit!” by textile brand Kvadrat in Denmark and Ceramic project” MINO SOIL” in Japan.

Sera Yanagisawa

Born in Okayama, Japan in 1995, Seira Yanagisawa graduated from Musashino Art University in 2022. While in school, he conducted research on furniture structures using curved plywood. This project is his first participation in design work.

The Conran Shop is a home furnishings store that stocks carefully selected furniture, lighting, interior accessories, and gifts from around the world, as well as many original items. The first store was opened in London, England in 1973 by Terence Conran, one of the UK's leading designers. The shop now has branches in four countries (UK, Japan, Korea, and Kuwait) and offers sources of inspiration and new discoveries in items and styling to help you enrich and enjoy your daily life.
