At Nomura, we are dedicated to creating spaces enrich the heart, guided by our mission to 'Unleash the boundless creativity of our multitalented professionals, exploring the frontiers of spatial design.’
This is a project that rethinks the relationship between people and objects.
Nomura designs spaces and creates diverse productions. In doing so, we feel that it is a great challenge when furniture that is still in good working condition is discarded or not used.
When we think about using things with care for a long time, we often develop an attachment to them and a psychological relationship with them. When this happens, we have noticed that at some point, we go from a sense of 'owning and using' an object to a sense of 'being with' it by pouring more awareness into it.
We thought that noticing this change in sensation might be one way of solving the problem.
The furniture presented in this project could be more sturdy and functional. Instead, it is somewhat unstable and whimsical and has a quality that makes you want to care about it.
How would we interact with furniture if it were transformed from simply 'being' to 'having life'? Through a series of experimental designs, the exhibition asks society about the transformation of value between people and objects.

'‘I'm sorry to put you under a bit of strain, but let me sit down.’
People sit in chairs in different ways.
If only people and furniture can explore each other's awareness and if they can become attached to each other.

'May I place something onto you?'
This is a whimsical table that requires you to consider whether it's okay to put something on it.
Against our will, you slide off things or prop things up while almost losing your balance.
We hope to learn to get along with these unreliable but lovable furniture.

This is a table lamp that would make you feel like asking "Hey, don't you think It's time to turn the light on" or "It's time for you and I to rest."
Furniture has a time when it is not being used as much as it is being used.
What if there were furniture that worked hard or slacked off, just as people work hard or rest?

Restaurant floor focused on a sustainable cycle of food culture
Set in an airy space teeming with the power of the life of nature—lush with greenery, adorned with earth-covered floors and walls, and boasting a terrace with a garden in which herbs and vegetables are grown—the restaurants, café, deli & bar, and grocery shop at GYRE.FOOD share the cycle concept.
Everything comes from the earth and then goes back to the earth. GYRE.FOOD offers dining and food culture experiences that guide us along the path of that universal cycle.
This derives from an awareness that everyone’s consumer behavior affects society and the environment in some way. GYRE’s SHOP & THINK approach led to the creation of this floor, which is the first restaurant space in Japan designed by architect Tsuyoshi Tane.
