Exhibition"NEST"
At DESIGNART TOKYO 2024, under the title Exhibition “NEST”, works using rice straw, which has been respected as objects of prayer, rather than just consumed as a resource for roofs, walls, and as tools for daily life, will be exhibited. Their representative work, “TORI,” is an attempt to express the innate Japanese view of nature, formed by rice cultivation, in the modern age. It explores the essence of spiritual richness that is needed today from a view of living in harmony with nature.

BRAND / CREATOR
Straft
Craft unit consisting of Tamaki Ishii and Kazuma Yamagami . After graduating from Tokyo Zokei University with degrees in industrial design, they started their activities as “ Straft ” based in Tokyo. Using rice straw left over after harvesting as their main material, they create works that incorporate traditional styles with a modern sensibility.
“Keshiki” (otherwise known as “scenery” or “landscape” in English) is a situation in which several different elements exist within a single frame to create a new and unique perspective. Take, for example, Mt. Fuji, a lake, a forest, and a blue sky: when these separate elements are all placed together within a single frame, a moment is captured, one unique to that time and space.
Keshiki is a project that aims to create a harmonious situation inside a built structure, rather than outside of it. The space consists of a plant shop (MOTH), a pop-up space (TangibleStudio), a restaurant, a multipurpose space (AA), and an office. These individual contents, with their differing functions, are constantly working to create unique situations that are shared between the space and its inhabitants.
