Seeds of Heritage is an ongoing project created by the Israeli designer Orna Tamir Schestowitz. Orna designed these organically shaped ceramic vessels and superimposed on the manmade object photographic images of the bounty of the Israeli earth.
She carefully curated a series of portraits of herbs, fruits and vegetables rooted in the same soil of which the pottery was made.
The carefully selected and photographed plants were cultivated from heirloom seeds that naturally evolved in the region over generations. Each vessel presents a sample of burgeoning produce originating from the land of Israel, a tribute to the natural cycle of life and a rich agricultural legacy.
No two vessels are alike, their sheer presence, scale and unconventional silhouette instantly draw the observer to have a closer look, perhaps reach out and touch the object.
Orna applied new and innovative techniques for printing on ceramics.
She uses local soil for her pottery and her images enfold the bright light, and long shadows, to frame and formulate the vessels. Orna has transformed the age-old medium of ceramics by an inspired application of modern techniques.
Orna Tamir Schestowitz is an acclaimed Israeli designer, artist and curator. In 2000, she published an architecture and design book titled Homes with Personal Style. In 2005 she curated the Offering Reconciliation exhibition at the Ramat Gan Museum, bringing together Israeli and Palestinian artists. World, established in 1959 in Kobe as a wholesaler of women’s knitwear, was named as such to represent its aspiration of becoming an enterprise that would advance into a worldwide market. Since then, the company has led the industry with new ideas that have overturned conventional thinking and has grown quickly into a comprehensive apparel manufacturer. In 1993, we launched retail sales and developed brands and operations that targeted diverse sales channels. Responding precisely to the changes in the market environment and the needs of our customers has enabled us to become the leading fashion business company in Japan. In 2017, we transitioned into a holding company system to evolve into the fashion industry’s comprehensive service group. We are also striving to generate new value through “co-creation” while designating the World Kita-Aoyama Building, our base in Tokyo, as a sign and symbol of the World Group’s vision. Through events such as DESIGNART, we will encourage broader participation and co-create a new communication culture within which people feel connected and related to each other.
