Nezu Museum

area: 表参道/OMOTESANDO

information

The Nezu Museum, which was renewed in 2009, softly connects the urban atmosphere and the forest behind through the building’s slightly inclined roof. The layer of tile roofs reflect the buildings original form, blending the new and old along with the garden in harmony. With the use of steel phosphate plates, the theme park feeling coming from the tile roofs were minimized, giving the overall expression of the museum one suitable for the magnificent collection they have. A forest of bamboos surround the building, keeping an openness towards the city environment. Visitors are welcomed by a graceful approach surrounded by bamboo trees, as if they were walking into a forest from the bustling streets of Omotesando. This museum is a device that brings the city and the forest together, once again.
