DESIGNART TOKYO 2019 REPORT

DESIGNART TOKYO 2019, a festival that gathered international exhibitors from over 20 countries and a total of approx. 227,400 visitors, has ended. The exhibitions were held at 104 venues for 10 days from October 18th to 27th to realize the concept, ‘TOKYO TRANSFORMED INTO A MUSEUM FOR 10 DAYS.’

This year, being the third year of the festival, the venues were spread into 11 areas in Tokyo including newly-added Ginza and Shinjuku. There was a 1.6-fold increase in the number of visitors and the scale of the festival from the last year, the second year of the festival. Seeing visitors going around the city is becoming more familiar.

Through the exhibition venues showcasing a wide range of works, the project toward the realization of ‘1% for Art’ (a cultural program to allocate 1% of public construction cost for art projects), as well as the exhibition by the partner country Israel featuring its unique culture, the festival successfully offered opportunities to experience a mixture of different cultures that transcend nationalities and genres.
Japanese creativity sees an upsurge of public interest and international attention.
